Greenbrier Resort

Last weekend our friends Eileen and Larry got married at the Greenbrier in West Virginia. It was a Sunday evening wedding so we decided to make the most of a long weekend and planned a little getaway just for the two of us. Thanks to lots of help from our parents, Steve and I were able to enjoy the weekend alone without any worry about the boys. Steve had been to the Greenbrier before on business, but this was my first visit. The place is HUGE. Not exactly my taste in decorating, but still clearly impressive and extravagant. We were especially thankful when, after making a slight error on our initial reservations, they upgraded us to a Suite. Definitely a treat. Steve and I splurged on a dinner at Prime 44 West on Saturday night resulting in probably the best steak I've ever enjoyed. The rest of the weekend we just took advantage of a relaxing weekend away and I also felt obligated to test out the Spa there on-site - also a treat.
The wedding itself was beautiful. A mixed-faith ceremony that, instead of focusing on religion, focused on the couple. A writer friend shared the story of Larry and Eileen which brought nearly everyone to tears it was so well-done. And the brown tuxedos and bridesmaid dresses could not have been more beautiful for an outdoor West Virginia wedding in October! The only thing that topped the ceremony was the reception at the Sporting Club. Never have I seen a spread quite like what we enjoyed! Six different rooms celebrating the roots of the couple - a station with Korean food, one with traditional Chicago-fare, one with New England treats, a raw bar, a West Virginia station, and a dessert bar (Eileen loves sweets!). The crab claws, Korean beef, and pumpkin cakes had to be my favorites!

After earning a place on the PGA Classic Tour the Greenbrier definitely celebrates its role in the gold world now!

This is actually the side, not the front.
The "Artists' Colony" where local craftspeople sell their goods.
The hot spring that initially attracted visitors in the late 1700's.
Me on the golf course - or at least as close as I got!Steve posing at my request.

A little picnic on the patio Sunday afternoon.
With our friends Joe and Angela. The rare picture of the two of us together!

Angela, me, and the beautiful bride!
Eileen admitted that the pocket option in her duponi silk gown was the selling point!
