I was hoping Grayson would want a Curious George themed birthday, but I've discovered that age 3 is when toddlers develop very strong opinions of their own. Grayson was insistent that "Scoop" from Bob the Builder be on his cake. So....we had a construction themed party.
Grayson with his "Scoop" cake and doing his best to show us how old he is now...apparently dexterity between the thumb and pinky finger doesn't develop until after age 3!
Many thanks to "Robert" at the Christiansburg Home Depot who had pity on me when I walked in and asked where I could by "toddler sized aprons like the one you're wearing." When I explained that my 3 year old wanted a construction birthday party he supplied me with aprons, wooden projects, and pins all free of charge. We bought some screwdrivers as favors and were set to go! The project went well with help from the parents and grandparents! The finished products were less than remarkable, but I think the kids had fun with the process.
Nana actually arrived early so Grayson got to try out his new bike in the house with him jammies still on. Since then he has put about 5 miles on the bike doing laps around the main level of the house.
His Mimi and Pawpaw waited until his "real" birthday to bring over his gift. Grayson took a few turns around the yard in his big jeep, but I think it's going to take a few more turns to get really comfortable with it. It goes quite a bit faster than his little jeep. But I sense that before Christmas we'll be chasing him through neighbors yards!
