This past weekend we went to Amherst to celebrate the town's 100th Birthday. It was nice spending the day in town, but it would have been nicer if it were 10 degrees cooler. It was 96 with humidity at about the same. The town had done a nice job of organizing events including music, food, fire trucks, face painting, balloons, etc. The boys seemed to enjoy the day and the highlight was getting to be in the parade! Mom had served on a committee that had local students draw pictures to represent Amherst for each letter of the alphabet. The pictures were made into signs that were then worn by parade marchers (Steve, the kids, and myself included)!
Lunch on the lawn in front of the courthouse.
The grand marshall of the parade. As Steve would say, "only in Amherst."
Steve and Russell enjoying the scenery at Mill Creek Lake.
The next morning we decided to go on a bike ride on the Piney River Rails to Trail. Mom insists on a bike with on gears. One day I'm going to convince her to try mine to see how much easier it is with gears!
Thought Mom's birthday isn't actually until later this week it worked out for us to celebrate while we were in town. Kim and the kids came over Sunday afternoon and we all got to enjoy cake and then an afternoon at the pool at Winton.
