River Days

On the last day in Fayetteville we decided to take the kids to play on the little beach area below Fayette Station rapids. It's where I have spent many, many hours awaiting Steve's return from a trip down the New. The kids had a blast.

Since Steve's forced switch to an open canoe from a kayak, Fayette Station has been his nemesis. Apparently he can conquer the Class V Keeney's with no problem, but gets swamped here every time.

I think Luke is allergic to WV. He had been diagnosed with seasonal allergies earlier this spring and is on daily medication, but as soon as we arrived in WV, the poor little thing just turned into one huge rash and by the end of the trip, his eyes were nearly swollen shut. Needless to say, he wasn't feeling his best.
Instead of playing in the water his only real interests were finding hidden snacks and being held.

The scenery at the river is gorgeous. Grayson found a great little fishing rock and had so much fun casting his rod. He's caught on now that he doesn't have a hook, but he still had fun.

And we should have known and packed swimsuits, but of course the kids ended up in the water.

All tuckered out and drying out on a rock.
