You just never know when to believe those weathermen. So Steve and I didn't change our plans to go to Snowshoe Friday when we heard them calling for "a whopper of a snowstorm" to roll in mid-afternoon on Friday. Well - turns out they were spot on. It took us 7 hours to get home including a 2 hour delay on I-81. Fortunately Rich and Jolene had agreed to pick up the boys from daycare. They ended up having to also put them to bed at their house! I'm also very lucky to have a husband who is both skilled and patient with treacherous driving in bad weather. The roads were really, really awful but we did make it home safely and got to spend the night with our boys! As a side-note - it was worth it. We had a great first day of snowboarding for the season with few people, no wind, and 30 degree temperatures! We woke up Saturday to about 14.5 inches of snow! Grayson declared, "It's Christmastime!" Hope he's not disappointed when we don't have a white Christmas next year. Steve spent most of the day shoveling us out. The boys weren't terribly cracked up about the snow. My visions of little bundled up snow bunnies running around in the snow all day disappeared when we quickly realized the boys couldn't even take a step in the snow it was so deep. We did manage to convince the boys to try sledding with Caitlin across the street once or twice. Grayson still wasn't thrilled with snow, but I think Luke would have stayed out longer if Jeremy or Steve had kept carrying him up the hill to ride down on the sled. Those Daddies had enough heavy lifting to do with the snow and shovels already, though. I think the two big hits of the weather event were the "Frosty" Steve built in the front yard and the snowcream Kellie and I made with the kids inside. Thank goodness for great neighbors to pass time with when you're stuck inside!
Watching Steve build the snowman. The snow was just too deep for these little guys to get out there and walk around.
Steve's handiwork!
Caitlin enjoying the snowcream! I think she ate 3 little bowls!
